BIOLOGICAL DENTISTRY is the consideration of dental health as the portal to overall health. Dental treatments, materials selection and techniques are considered in terms of the best for overall health.
Dental diseases have links to chronic degenerative diseases, central nervous system diseases, an active metal load, and heart and blood circulatory issues for a start.
Amalgam Removal Therapy
Safety protocols  are critical with amalgam fillings because they allow mercury to accumulate in the body when mercury vapour is released. An environment free of toxins, within the body and around us is the future of a healthy life. High speed evacuation is used with the removal of amalgam, and rubber dam and pure oxygen therapy are available on request.
Dental Health Rejuvenation Therapy
The link between gum and bone disease. and heart and circulatory problems has been well established. Advanced gum infections that are untreated, can lead to illnesses.
A natural approach to the treatment of gum infection, involves staying away from pharmaceuticals, and focuses on regularly lifting away the bacteria and toxins that build up around the roots of the teeth so that they can the gums can heal, with professional scaling and cleaning.

What are Porcelain Veneers

Leila Haywood

Porcelain veneers are very fine tooth-coloured porcelain covers which are seamlessly bonded to the front of prepared teeth. They are a more conservative treatment than a crown and can be used if the tooth is strong and healthy.

They can be suitable for people who have very misaligned teeth, and for those who did not wish to have braces or Invisalign orthodontic treatment.

If teeth are discoloured, worn, or chipped away, porcelain veneers may be a treatment option where the tooth can be rebuilt exactly as it ought to for best aesthetics and durability, and allows the dentist to rebuild your smile with a greater capacity to change the shade and shape of the teeth.

1. Feels just like the tooth

2. Strong, durable and stable

3. The shape of the teeth and colour can be changed

4. Finishes like glass, so it is stain free

5. 5 year laboratory warranty

6. Takes 2 weeks to have made, and temporaries are made

7. They can be made to be extremely thin, down to 0.2 mm

8. Precision fit and made by master ceramist in Australia

1.  Veneers mostly require some preparation of the tooth surface, which means these are irreversible

2. Costly

3. Time - temporaries are placed for 2 weeks while our ceramist makes the veneer

4. Very rarely they can chip

5. Eventually a veneer will likely need to be replaced, they are very strong and long lasting, but may not last a life time

6. Excellent home care is needed, as well as routine checkups and professional cleans each 6 months to monitor veneers

7.  Rarely veneers can debond or pop off - wear and tear on a veneer can be minimised by wearing a protective night guard or splint

How Dental Bonding can Improve Your Smile

Leila Haywood

There are several options to restore your teeth to get a perfect smile. Front teeth can be restored with veneers, crowns, tooth bonding, or a combination of these. Teeth whitening technology and Invisalign orthodontic work can also be used depending on the symmetry of your smile, the condition of your teeth, and your facial features.

Tooth bonding involves the use of tooth coloured resin that the dentist matches from a very large range to the actual colour of your tooth, and can be used to:

    •    close minor gaps between the front teeth

    •    Repair fractured teeth

    •    Restore chipped edges of teeth

    •    Change a tooth shape

    •    Lengthen a tooth

    •    Improve discoloured teeth

Dental bonding is generally fairly easy to sit through, is usually painless, is mostly done without anaesthetic, is complete in one visit, and can make a big difference to your smile in a cost effective way for years to come. It can mostly be done without drilling the tooth.

The quality of a composite resin restoration is excellent when it is finished neatly, but it does wear down over time and can chip away if you grind your teeth or have habits like nail biting. It can also discolour and become stained over time with coffee and tea, wine, foods we eat, or smoking if applicable, but can be minimised by brushing your teeth twice daily, flossing daily and regularly visiting your dentist and dental hygienist each 6 months, so that they can buff away any stains that might have developed over time.

If you are looking for a long term solution,  porcelain veneers are restorations that are made in the laboratory with a ceramic specialist and your dentist. They cover the front of a tooth, and are sometimes suitable because they are more durable, are stain resistant and very strong. They are made in two dental visits, drilling and anaesthetic is usually required, and it is more expensive than tooth bonding.

A consultation with your dentist to discuss the options available to you may be helpful, and they can customise aesthetic treatments to suit your needs.
