HAPPY NEW YEAR to all our patients and friends, and wishing you a year full of happiness and healthy teeth. Our year has started with smiles en masse.
Dr Amy and I have been researching and training in the next generation technology, where the precision of ceramic milling has finally reached the standard that we are finding to be exceptional, and therefore acceptable. Our technician here in Brisbane is scanning our models in with the latest scanning software, and creating porcelain inlays and onlays, to replace composite resin and metal fillings. I am in the process of having one placed in one of my molar teeth and Amy and I are excited at how durable and aesthetically pleasing they are. They are now our material of choice for larger restorations on the back teeth.
Composite resin has been lasting around 5 to 7 years for the average dentist; and of course patient - and it has its suitable applications, however for large fillings on the back teeth, porcelain is superior because of its strength, durability and aesthetics.
Christine, my hygienist, of 8 years! ... has been seeing to the transformation of healthy smiles with Zoom teeth whitening.
Late last year, I had the opportunity to check in with some patients who have had past restorations for review and maintenance.
Christine did some in office whitening for this lovely lady from the outback, and we then built up the two front teeth ( central incisors) to recreate a curve to the smile and to restore the worn down tooth structure. To help us maintain these, our patient wears a night guard to protect her teeth. These buildups have been in placed for 5 years.
This gentleman had 6 porcelain crowns and veneers to restore his top teeth in 2011, and the after photo is an update from 2016, which showcases the durability and lasting beauty of porcelain. Christine, my hygienist, has done in office whitening and provided active maintenance.
Regarding the relocation of our practice, well, we haven't heard from council, so we are hoping that we are informed some time soon. It would be lovely to be able to pick up our practice and move it a little bit closer to the river, but not close enough for flooding; underneath one of the beautiful fig trees in Mowbray Park. I can't forsee it happening, however, and as we are at the mercy of government scheduling, we all must be patient for any morsels of information for plans about the grandest of upheavals.
It has been a busy January for our team; seeing to cases and reviews, all the school kids for dental checks and cleans - especially checking if the toothbrush is also on holidays; resolutions for a healthy smile, preventive care and everything in between.
Please contact Sonia, our patient co-ordinator should you have any queries at all, on 07 3391 2504.
Wishing all of our patients and friends a lovely New Year, and a year of great things to smile about.
With the Kindest of Regards
