dental x-rays for assessment in dentistry
Information on dental x-ray types and why they are required for careful and thorough assessment in dentistry. Digital x-rays allow for much less radiation than old style x-rays on film
Exposure to all sources of radiation -- including the sun, minerals in the soil, appliances in your home and s-rays -- may damage the tissues and cells in the body which could lead to the development of cancer. The dose of radiation you are exposed to during the taking of x-rays is extremely small, with very low radiation levels in dentistry. Digital and scanning x-ray machines limit the radiation beam to a very small area. Lead-lined aprons protect the body.
Radiation Health Queensland provide possession and use licenses each year to our practice with a requirement that x-ray machines are checked and certified for accuracy and safety with a radiation physicist.
